Website | EmailSteakhouses are relatively rare in the Icelandic foodscape, partly because the emphasis of modern cuisine has mainly been on fish and seafood, and partly because the main meat feed of the nation has been lamb, not beef. Besides, Icelanders have no particular tradition of beef steaks, but on the other hand lamb, the national favourite, has in the recent years evolved from being a rather uneventful but always fine everyday fodder into gourmet meals to delight the taste buds of any connoisseur. In keeping with this tradition, brand-new Rauðará Steakhouse serves hand carved lamb steaks, from organic mountain lambs, as well as beef steaks. Located in an old brewery also housing Hotel Reykjavík, Rauðará is a small, romantic restaurant, offering personal and lively service. Apart from the steaks, the menu also contains a selection of fresh seafood.
