A fresh vegetarian restaurant, this is a lunch-time favourite and offers an excellent banquet service. Situated in an unassuming new building in the city centre, facing the Austurvöllur and the tiny Cathedral, standing between Skólabrú and Hótel Borg, Salatbarinn nevertheless manages to hold its own, thanks to its novel approach to vegetarian food. With a vegetarian salad bar as its core, Salatbarinn hjá Eika has been a welcome addition to Icelandic vegetarian cuisine, and has now opened a new unit in the busy area of Skeifan: Fákafen 9, 108 Reykjavik, tel: +354 588 0222.
