WebsiteFounded in 1862, the regiment at Fort Douglas began successful mineral prospecting ventures in the foothills. The presence of the Army was not welcomed by the Mormon pioneers, yet the fort became an important part of the community. Its buildings date from the 1870s and are an interesting blend of Victorian, Army and Western architecture. The museum features exhibits on the founding of the fort, history of the military in Utah and the history of early Mormon military endeavors. A self-guided walking tour begins at the museum. Admission is free.
