St. Rupert is the patron saint of Salzburg, and locals have held a celebration in his honour since the 14th century. A varied program of entertainment takes place around the cathedral, with a funfair, arts and crafts stalls, beer tents, live music and plenty to eat and drink. The festivities culminate with a huge fireworks display over the old town. The festival makes a great day out and provides visitors with a fine opportunity to mingle with locals and get a flavor of the real Salzburg.
