The Kammerspiele Theatre is a part of Landestheater Salzburg; both are in the same building. The Kammerspiele, however, are noted for more alternative, modern acting. The smaller, cosy theatre is sort of an alternative venue for the more traditional, conventional and far more acclaimed Landestheater. Youth plays, stubborn, extravagant pieces and cabaret shows are the tonic of the average visitor to the Kammerspiele. The name Kammerspiele translates as "Chamber Theatre," and the setting is in harmony with this. A big plus: you are less likely to find well-known plays performed here than little-known plays featuring well-established actors. The foyer lends itself to after-show discussions and a literary post-mortem. This is a theatre for a new, critical generation.
