San Jose virtually shuts down between Holy Thursday and Easter Sunday (some transportation services also stop completely, so check if traveling around). One of the main attractions over this period are the elaborate funerary processions that take place all over the Central Valley leading up to Easter Sunday. It is wise to book months in advance if you want a hotel room during Easter Week. Although many residents of the capital leave town for the beaches, some people choose to stay at home and to join religious celebrations that include masses and processions.
