EmailThe San Sebastian horse-racing season takes place during July and August in the Hipódromo de Lasarte-Zubieta, a racecourse some 10km from San Sebastian in a town called Lasarte-Oria. The 15th of August is a special day because it is when the highest-priced race is run: the Gold Cup. Horses from various European countries participate and the décor and atmosphere around the track is reminiscent of the Belle Epoque: balconies, binoculars, hats, etc. The race takes place the week during which the 15th of August falls.
