This train station was built in 1880 according to the design of the French engineer and disciple of Eiffel, Biárez. The complex is built in wrought iron, which allowed for bright open spaces in keeping with the tastes of the day. In fact, the platforms, which are of a metal structure, make the place spacious and lend the complex a pleasant feeling of roominess. It is in good condition, although its infastuctures have undergone various renovations and extensions. There are also some other important iron structures from the era, such as the Ormaiztegi viaduct.
