According to the owner, it is patronised mainly by collectors, as children now prefer computer games and other forms of entertainment. The shop carries new and second-hand steam, electric and diesel locomotives, including Hornby and Tri-ang, but takes particular pride in locating rare and hard-to-find examples from the German, Marklin range. Train Trader also sells tracks, together with accessories like building kits and spare parts, and offers a repair service.
