This marks the anniversary of the declaration of the State of Israel in 1948. The festival starts as soon as Yom Ha'Zikaron ends in the evening and the switch between the two festivals is marked by a candle lighting ceremony which is televised. There are fireworks, street parties and outdoor Israeli dancing. There are performance stages all over the city, with the largest one being at Rabin Square (the concert begins at around 9pm). The next day is marked by picnics and barbecues in parks and on the beach.
