Unlike some holidays that only become known when you find the bank closed, there is no mistaking when this bash takes place. It far exceeds every other festival as China’s largest, most celebrated party. Streets overflow with revelers trying to catch a view of the traditional dragon and lion dancers that seemingly occupy every block. Decorative paper cuts of opera characters, flowers, and birds, as well as red couplets adorn every home. And the day culminates with a spectacular fireworks show. Advanced hotel reservations are strongly suggested. The festival is the same day as the Chinese New Year.
