This huge festival honors the Chinese rose. Generally, it applauds the approach of summer. Regardless of the motives, it provides boundless opportunities for people to literally get out and smell the roses. An elaborate grand opening ceremony highlighted by a massive parade crammed with dancers, acrobats, floats and guys with painted faces, launches the week long festival. The crowning of Miss Rose, Chinese rose exhibits and evening boat tours along the Hai River are other highlights. The festival’s dates fluctuate, but usually fall in or around mid-May.
