A market must be king-special in order to crest the wall between tourist trap and tourist attraction and this sprawl of hawking vendors achieves such rarefied status. Some have gone so far as to deem it as Tianjin at its “genuine best.” Shoulder-to-shoulder vendors with high-pitched voices stand under umbrellas extolling the qualitative values of vases, scrolls, teapots, ceramics, jades, and Mao memorabilia. Be sure to haggle for the vendor’s initial prices are always “what-are-you-crazy?” expensive.
