WebsiteIt's nothing short of amazing to witness the ancient ritual of female leatherback turtles heaving themselves out of the waves and onto shore to lay their eggs. There are prime locales traditionally used for turtle watching—all along the north coast from Blanchisseuse to Grande Riviere, and the east coast at Matura. These endangered giants come, from March to August, to lay their eggs. Approximately two months later, the eggs hatch: you can make the trip again to see the baby turtles struggle down to the ocean. You must obtain a permit from the Wildlife Section of the Forestry Division to view the turtles.
