EmailThis is Vancouver's oldest working-class neighbourhood. The area's first settlement was established in the 1880s and has a diverse mix of ethnicity, history and architecture. The diversity is present today in the area's housing quarters, small corner stores, historic schools, parks and places of worship. One example is Hawkes Avenue, where stately Edwardian houses rub mortar with simple, working-class blocks. To discover more about the area, the Architectural Institute of BC offers free walking tours of the area.
